The invention relates to a pyrolysis tube (1) for gas chromatography and to a gas chromatographic method enabling gas chromatographic columns and detectors to operate free from pyrolysis residues. According to the invention, the pyrolysis is carried out in a pyrolysis tube (1) which has a glass frit (2) at the discharge end of the gas flow charged with the pyrolysat, said frit protecting the columns and detectors from penetration of solid residues. The columns have a longer service life in such an operation mode.
