A sliding member comprising an alloy consisting of (in % by weight) 2-8 % Cr, 2-10 % Fe, 0.1-1.5 % Si, 2-22 % Co, 1.4-11 % Mo, the balance being Ni. The alloy forms a matrix 1 in which 1-35 % by weight of Co-Mo-Cr-Si particles 2 are dispersed, with those particles 2 exposed at the surface of the member having an oxide film 2a-2c thereon. The particles 2 are preferably of size 100-200 Ám. The alloy exhibits low friction and excellent wear resistance across a range of temperatures from room temperature to 900‹C. A sliding contact structure (which is to be exposed to a wide range of temperatures) comprises the above sliding member and a mating member which has a nitrided surface in sliding contact with the sliding member. |
