PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To smoothly move paper between a paper guide and a printing gap by superposing the platen side edge of carrying passage side paper guides on a locus made by the edge opposed to a carriage side paper guide. SOLUTION: A carriage 12 reciprocates in the lengthwise direction of a platen 6 by a carriage mechanism, and a carriage side paper guide 19 moves to carrying passage side paper guides together with the carriage 12. The carrying passage side paper guides are normally arranged on the upstream side and the downstream side of the platen 6. A carrying side paper guide is arranged so that the platen 6 side edge is superposed on a moving locus made by the edge opposed to the carrying passage side paper guides of the carriage side paper guide 19 in either of the upstream side and the downstream side. A tip part of paper is continuously guided to the carriage side paper guide 19 from an upstream side carrying passage side paper guide 20 or to a downstream side carrying passage side paper guide 21 from the carriage side paper guide 19.
