PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin tatami mat core which can reduce the thickness of a thin tatami mat without degrading the dimensional stability thereof. SOLUTION: The thin tatami mat core is formed by providing a pair of hard fiberboards 3, 4 which have their superposed surfaces 3A, 4A subjected to surface roughening, superposing the hard fiberboards 3, 4 on both sides of a soft fiberboard 2, and engaging both the rough surfaces (superposed surfaces) with the soft fiberboard 2.
