PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a storage device with a best compression management mechanism. SOLUTION: This storage device mainly comprises a controller and at least one solid-state storage medium. The controller has a system interface connected to a system end, a microprocessor for a processing system command, and a memory interface capable of exchanging data with the solid-state storage medium. The controller makes out a type of original data to be stored, and selects a data compression arithmetic method optimum for the original data and a parameter list corresponding thereto itself. Thus, the original data transmitted from the external system end are compressed at the best ratio to become extremely minute data of a minimum storage unit, and are written into the solid-state storage medium.
