PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for driving a plasma display panel (PDP) constituted to enhance low-voltage driving and contrast characteristics by prevent an erroneous discharge due to a temporary voltage drop. SOLUTION: The method for driving the PDP includes the steps of: setting a sustain period where a specific voltage is maintained for a predetermined time between first and second periods whose voltage varies, in a ramp waveform, and supplying the ramp waveform to electrodes. The apparatus for driving the PDP is equipped with an initialization driving circuit for generating the ramp waveform including the sustain period where the specific voltage is maintained for the predetermined time between the first and second periods whose voltage varies and supplying the ramp waveform to the electrodes.
