PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition for preserving cells at cryogenic temperatures enabling preserved cells to be protected from cryogenic stress.

SOLUTION: The composition for preserving cells at cryogenic temperatures contains a compound of the formula(I)(wherein, R1is represented by formula(II); Ac is acetyl; and n is an integer of≥2), a salt thereof or a solvate thereof. This composition is useful for the long-term cryogenic preservation of mammalian cells, tissues or organs without declining in their viability.
