A power train of an automatic transmission is provided to improve oil pressure control efficiency by operating only two operational elements of two clutches and five brakes. A first clutch unit(50) connects a first sun gear(14) of a first simple planetary gear set(10) with a second sun gear(24) and a second ring gear(22). A second clutch connects a first ring gear(12) of the first simple planetary gear set, a third ring gear of a third simple planetary gear set(30), and a fourth ring gear(42) of a fourth simple planetary gear set(40). A brake unit controls selectively the rotation of the first to fourth sun gears(14,24,34,44) of the first to fourth simple planetary gear sets(10,20,30,40), a first, second, and fourth carriers(16,26,46) of the first, second, and fourth simple planetary gear sets, and the second and fourth ring gears of the second and fourth simple planetary gear sets. The first and second simple planetary gear sets are formed to connect the first and second carriers and the first and second sun gears with each other. The third and fourth simple planetary gear sets are formed to connect the third ring gear and the fourth carrier to each other and to connect the third and fourth sun gears with each other. The first ring gear is connected to an input shaft(2). The third carrier is connected to an output shaft(4).
