<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a currency discriminator instantaneously determining a denomination and the number of mixed currencies with high accuracy without being affected by deterioration of a medium. <P>SOLUTION: The device comprises a transmitting and receiving part communicable with a currency storing at least denomination information and including a transmitting and receiving part; a storage part storing the denomination information of the currency; and a control part identifying the denomination of the currency by the denomination information read by the transmitting and receiving part communicable with the currency.
