<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a secondary battery exerting further high power output as compared with a conventional secondary battery. <P>SOLUTION: A single-plate lead acid battery Va is characterized in that a positive electrode-side capacitor layer 5a and a negative electrode-side capacitor layer 5b are formed on the respective surfaces of a positive electrode plate 1a, and a negative electrode plate 6a each containing an active material in a form in which activated carbon has a concentration gradient; and the electronic resistance between the center of a portion where the activated carbon is present at a high concentration and a collector terminal is lower than the electronic resistance between the center of a portion where the activated carbon is present at a low concentration and the collector terminal. In the single-plate lead acid battery Va, charges are accumulated in the positive electrode-side capacitor layer 5a and in the negative electrode-side capacitor layer 5b.
