PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of producing a polybutylene terephthalate resin having excellent mechanical strength and color tone, reduced haze and foreign materials, and producing a high grade polybutylene terephthalate by carrying out direct esterification and polycondensation stably and continuously while preventing occurrence of filter clogging and troubles of feeding liquid. SOLUTION: In the method of continuously producing polybutylene terephthalate, a liquid film comprising 1,4-butanediol as a main ingredient is formed all over the wall surface which is in contact with a gas phase in an esterifying reaction tank and the liquid film is continuously renewed to thereby prevent foreign matters generated in the esterifying reaction tank from being adhered.
