PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pinch roll unit which is preferably used for shearing equipment of a thick steel plate, and by which lubricant drops outside a plate member, even if the lubricant leaks, and the lubricant does not adhere to a surface of the plate member, and to provide a roll for the pinch roll unit. SOLUTION: The pinch roll unit includes the roll and a drive mechanism to rotate the roll, wherein the roll is fitted to the same shaft as a drive shaft of the drive mechanism, and the roll has an umbrella-shaped member on a side face of the drive mechanism in which the umbrella-shaped member has an opening expanded toward a drive mechanism side. An end of the opening of the umbrella-shaped member is projected outside the plate member such as the sheared steel plate so that the lubricant leaked from a roll side end of the drive mechanism may not drop onto the plate member such as the sheared steel plate.
