PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photocatalytic body exhibiting high photocatalytic activity when receiving visible rays contained plentifully in the light of a practical light source such as a fluorescent lamp and to provide a method for producing the photocatalytic body. SOLUTION: The photocatalytic body is a complex formed from a visible light-responsive titanium dioxide photocatalyst and porous silica and has 200-1,000 m<SP>2</SP>/g BET specific surface area, 0.10-1.0 cm<SP>3</SP>/g pore volume and 1-10 nm pore size. The method for producing the photocatalytic body comprises the steps of: dispersing visible light-responsive titanium dioxide photocatalyst particles in a solvent and dissolving a pore imparting agent in the solvent; thereafter adding a hydrolyzable silicon compound to the solvent; hydrolyzing the hydrolyzable silicon compound: and firing the obtained solid.
