PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a self-alignment technology capable of performing more precise alignment in an optical semiconductor element, an optical semiconductor device and a mounting method for the optical semiconductor element.SOLUTION: In an optical semiconductor element (100), a groove structure (C) is formed. The groove structure comprises an active region that is provided while being held between a first electrode (118) and a second electrode (102), and includes a groove extending in a direction along a gain region that is scheduled to be formed in a part of the active region, in the first electrode (118). The optical semiconductor element is mounted on an optical waveguide substrate (200) including an optical waveguide (206) for propagating light and a substrate electrode (204) which is provided while extending in an extension direction of the optical waveguide (206), by oppositely brazing the optical semiconductor element to the optical waveguide substrate (200) while making the first electrode (118) and the substrate electrode (204) opposite to each other. A current is made flow between the first electrode (118) and the second electrode (102), the gain region is formed in a part of the active region along the substrate electrode (204), and light emitted from the gain region is photo-coupled in one end of the optical waveguide (206).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4 |
