The purpose of the present invention is to reduce the generation of image data for which position information is erroneous or position information was not acquired. An image pickup device 1 includes: a GPS reception unit 115 for acquiring a GPS signal; a position information acquisition unit 1022 for acquiring position information which corresponds to the position at which acquired was image data acquired from the GPS signal received by the GPS reception unit 115; a recording medium 106 for saving image data and metadata; and an image recording unit 1024 for recording to the recording medium 106 the image data and the metadata which were stored in a RAM 103. In a case where a GPS signal cannot be acquired, the position information acquisition unit 1022 executes position information acquisition processing for acquiring position information within a period of time set beforehand. When the position information acquisition unit 1022 has acquired position information, the image recording unit 1024 records, to the recording medium 106, the image data stored in the RAM 103 and the metadata to which the acquired position information was added.
