The transfer of palletised loads from a roller conveyor to a wheeled transporter, with a fork or with a tray, must be capable of being performed without the risk of dropping and with a perfect disposition of the loads on the tray or the fork. In order to achieve this result, the transfer device comprises a conveyor portion (5) consisting of free rollers (6) and a structure (12) supporting the said rollers and arranged so that the fork or the tray (13) of the wheeled transporter can be accommodated below the free rollers. Two jacks (9), whose rods (11) bear on the ground, make it possible to vary the tilt of the portion (5) from a substantially horizontal position, for receiving the loads (2) from a roller conveyor (3), to an inclined position, for transferring the loads to the wheeled transporter (4). The device may be used in an installation in which the loads, produced continuously, are transported from one station to another by means of the said conveyor and stored or loaded with the aid of the wheeled transporter. <IMAGE>
