The transporting process involves the use of vehicles (10,30) on an elevated rail arrangement (59). A vehicle in the travelling position can overtake a vehicle in the waiting position, since the wheels (14a,b) of the vehicle in the travelling position can pass outside those (34a,b) of the vehicle in the waiting position. The vehicles can be raised or lowered vertically by the movement of turning arms (11a-31b) on axes (13a-33b) to take them from the raised travelling position to the lowered waiting position and vice versa. The wheels are further apart in the travelling position than in the waiting position.
