PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily provide a high paper folding position precision by providing a means for biting the loop of a sheet formed in a branch part of a carrying passage by the operation of a brake means for stopping the sheet by the contact with the sheet on the downstream side by a distance shorter than a prescribed distance from the branch part and folding the sheet. SOLUTION: A sensor SE9 is set on the downstream side from a branch part 319 in a first carrying passage 31, and the contact part with a sheet of a brake member 313 is situated between the sensor SE9 and the branch part 319. The brake member 313 has an arm 314 rockable around a shaft 316 and a pressure contact part 315 contactable with the sheet, which is mounted near the tip of the arm 314. A second carrying passage 32 is situated just above a paper folding part 35, and it is branched from the first carrying passage 31 and formed by a guide plate. The paper folding part 35 is provided near the start point of the second carrying passage 32 and constituted so as to bite the loop of the sheet formed in the branch part 319 by the operation of the brake member 313 and fold the sheet.
