PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve emission and drivability by restricting the range of variation to the rich and lean sides in the air-fuel ratio. SOLUTION: A correction coefficient FAF in an air-fuel ratio feedback control can be changed as desired in response to output voltage VOX1 of an oxygen sensor, vehicle speed SPD, and gear position GP. Thus, even though it takes a long time for exhaust gas from the internal combustion engine to reach the oxygen sensor due to restrictions, etc., of layout constitution, the range of variation to the rich and lean sides in the air-fuel ratio can be restricted. Further, since the center of control in the air-fuel ratio can be shifted to the rich side, the amount of NO<SB>x</SB>-discharge in the high-speed region in the vehicle speed SPD can be reduced. In an internal combustion engine of a big valve-overlap, drivability in the low-speed range in the vehicle speed SPD can be improved. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
