An LED backlight in which deterioration in in-plane uniformity of brightness is suppressed, thinning and narrowing of frame can be attained while limiting the length of wiring, and routing of wiring is facilitated. An LED is provided on one surface of an LED substrate (40) which is mounted on a chassis panel (20) by having the surface opposite to the above-mentioned one surface of the LED substrate (40) in contact with the chassis panel (20), and a connection hole (25) penetrating the chassis panel (20) is provided at a portion in the region of the chassis panel (20) mounting the LED substrate (40).
