PROCESSES FOR PRODUCING MODIFIED CARBON-SOURCE OIL AND FOR PRODUCING CARBON MATERIAL

A process for producing a modified carbon-source oil at a low treatment cost; and a process for producing a carbon material. A hundred parts by mass of a carbon-source oil comprising either or both of a coal-derived heavy oil and a petroleum-derived heavy oil is mixed with at least 0.01 part by mass of an aqueous alkali solution. At least the resultant solid matter is removed therefrom to thereby produce a modified carbon-source oil. The modified carbon-source oil is used as a raw material to produce a carbon material. Furthermore, a carbon-source oil comprising either or both of a coal-derived heavy oil and a petroleum-derived heavy oil and containing, incorporated therein, the solid matter generated in the process for producing a modified carbon-source oil is used as a raw material to produce a carbon material.
