PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing dimethylamino acrylate and dimethylamino acrylate quaternary salt, in which the method does not have adverse effect on a polymer obtained by polymerizing dimethylaminoethyl acrylate or dimethylaminoethyl acrylate quaternary salt by controlling the content of vinyl oxyethyl acrylate that is an impurity present in dimethylaminoethyl acrylate and dimethylaminoethyl acrylate quaternary salt.SOLUTION: A method for producing dimethylaminoethyl acrylate comprises transesterification between an alkyl acrylate and dimethylaminoethyl alcohol containing 20 ppm or less of vinyloxy ethanol in the presence of a catalyst.SELECTED DRAWING: None
