PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer and the like capable of preventing information leakage in a case of theft and loss accidents.SOLUTION: A printer comprises: an authentication information storage part; an authentication part which performs authentication processing on a user on the basis of authentication information from a host device and authentication information stored in the authentication information storage part; and a processing management part which executes a request of the user from the host device or does not execute the request on the basis of the result of the authentication processing. When the authentication part authenticates the user who made the request in a case where the request is the first request, the processing management part executes start-up processing. When the authentication part does not authenticate the user, the processing management part does not execute the start-up processing. When the authentication part authenticates the user who made the request in the case where the request is the second request after the start-up processing, the processing management part executes the request.
