PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for quantifying selenium (Se) by valence number, which utilizes an eluent containing no organic carbon, offers sufficient detection sensitivity, and is applicable to highly saline samples.SOLUTION: A method involves: injecting a sample liquid to an ion exclusion column containing an anion-exchange group, while feeding an aqueous solution containing a nitric acid and sulfate to the ion exclusion column as an eluent; separating and sorting selenium compounds in the sample liquid by valence number; and introducing a liquid flowing out from the ion exclusion column into an inductive coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICP-MS) to quantify selenium. The method allows valence-specific quantification of arsenic (As) to be performed concurrently with quantification of selenium.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2 |
