Lubricants based on synthetic ester oils were prepd. by esterifying acid mixts. obtained as byproducts in the oxidn. of C6-12 cycloalkanes. Oxidn. of cyclohexane with inert gas containing O in the presence of Co naphthenate catalyst, followed by extn. with MeCOEt, yielded a mixt. contg. C4-6 monocarboxylic acids, hydroxycaproic acid, and dicarboxylic acids, mainly adipic. This mixt. was esterified by heating in the presence of catalyst to give lubricants.
