The invention concerns a method in the cantilevered frame part of the press part and/or wire part of the paper machine for tightening the cantilever beam 23 between the side frames R1, R2 of the paper machine in order to reduce sagging of the ends of the side frame R1 that are on the maintenance side of the cantilever beam 23 to facilitate removal of the intermediate pieces 19 during forming of a free intermediate space via which intermediate space the closed fabric loops of the paper machine can be positioned around the rolls and crossbeams during replacement of the paper machine fabrics. In the method the cantilever beam 23 is tightened internally by producing a force F between the protruding beam 24 of cantilever beam 23 and the frame beam 25 which encloses it.
