Auxiliary photosensors are positioned directly adjacent individual photosensors of the linear array or between each two successive photosensors within the array. The auxiliary photosensors have associated charge detectors using a floating structure comprising a number of MOS detector transistors with channels for the charge carriers with the same conductivity as the semiconductor substrate. The gate electrodes of these transistors are coupled to the charge detector outputs. USE - Automatic focussing camera.
