PURPOSE:To provide a new 2-propanol derivative effective in improving the storage stability, especially plasticizer resistance of a color-developed image of a recording material such as heat-sensitive recording paper. CONSTITUTION:The compound of formula I [R<1> is 1-5C alkyl, 1-5C alkoxy or (substituted) aralkyloxy; R<2> to R<4> are 1-5C alkyl, 1-5C alkoxy or l-5C alkenyl; R<5> is H or 1-5C alkyl; (m), (n) and (p) are integer of 0-4], e.g. 1-(4- hydroxybenzoyloxy)-3-(4-benzyloxydiphenylsulfon-4'-yloxy)-2-methyl-2-p ropanol. The compound can be produced by (A) reacting a compound of formula II with a compound of formula IV in a solvent or by (B) reacting a compound of formula III with a compound of formula V (X is halogen) in the presence of a deacidifying catalyst in a solvent. When the compound is used in a label for heat-sensitive recording, the obtained color-developed image has extremely high stability even in an environment contacting with a packaging material made of an organic polymeric material. |
