PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a picture reader which has a high reliability to be able to all of image data read from the form of document without losing it even at the time of stopping the operation on the way of consecutive reading. SOLUTION: This picture reader is provided with plural buffer means between a read part which reads pictures of paper sheets P which are consecutively fed one by one and an interface which outputs picture data to a host computer, and feed paper sheets P and picture read are stopped at the time of stop or temporary stop of a scanner, and the operation is stopped after all the picture data is outputted from buffer means where picture data is written.
