PURPOSE: A cathode ray tube is provided in which the beam strike neck of a funnel is sufficiently secured and inner atmospheric pressure strength is improved. CONSTITUTION: A cathode ray tube includes a panel having a fluorescent screen at the inner surface thereof, a funnel connected with the panel, a neck connected to the end of the portion having the smaller diameter of the funnel, at which an electron gun is placed, opposite to the fluorescent screen, and a deflection yoke accommodating area(50) between the end of the neck and the panel. The cross section of the deflection yoke accommodating area, which is perpendicular to the axis(Z) of the cathode ray tube, has the same circular shape as that of the neck at the portion connected with the neck but it has a rectangular shape corresponding to the effective ares of a face panel at its center portion and a portion connected to the fluorescent screen, wherein a ratio of thickness between the longitudinal part and the traverse part is 1.0 to 1.2.
