PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly control the rotating speed of a fan and the rotating speed of a water pump by use of an electromagnetic rheologic fluid. SOLUTION: In the water-cooled electromagnetic rheologic fluid control type combination fan drive unit and water pump used in a cooling system, a magnetic field is introduced into a working chamber between a drive ring and a driven ring, the state of the fluid is changed from a freely flowing state to a semi-solid state to increase the viscosity of the fluid. The rotation of the drive ring also rotates an impeller assembly having an impeller for carrying engine cooling water. When a current is carried to electromagnetic coils in the water-cooled electromagnetic rheologic fluid control type combination fan drive unit and water pump, a magnetic field is generated, and an electronic control device controls the current quantity carried in the electromagnetic coils.
