PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exposure arithmetic operation device, an exposure arithmetic operation method and a camera appropriately reflecting the luminance of a main subject in an exposure value. SOLUTION: The exposure arithmetic operation device is equipped with: a photometry part 7 which performs photometry by dividing a photographic image plane into a plurality of areas, and outputs photometric values corresponding to the respective areas; a distribution detection part 8 detecting the distribution in the photographic image plane of a highlight area showing a relatively high photometric value out of the photometric values; and a representative luminance value detection part 8 deciding a representative luminance value showing the brightness of field representatively based on the distribution of the highlight area.
