PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reliably eliminate luminance irregularity caused by fluctuation or changes with lapse of time of a side light type backlight. SOLUTION: A luminance measuring section 127 measures the luminance of a liquid crystal panel 121. A data processing section 128 acquires distribution data representing luminance distribution. The distribution data is once stored in a data memory section 116 and then read out. A grayscale modulation section 114 modulates the grayscale of an image signal based on the distribution data and causes the liquid crystal panel 12 to display an image based on the modulated image signal. A backlight control section 115 controls the luminous energy of the backlight 122 based on the distribution data and the image signal. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
