PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a 5-(trifluoromethyl)pyrimidine derivative which is useful as a pharmaceutical and agrochemical intermediate and an electronic material intermediate and to provide a method for producing the same.SOLUTION: There is provided a method for obtaining a 5-(trifluoromethyl)pyrimidine derivative represented by the formula (1) and a derivative represented by the formula (1) by oxidizing a 4-phenylthio-5-(trifluoromethyl)pyrimidine derivative to produce a sulfoxide, followed by reacting with a metal alkoxide.
