PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a serum albumin level measurement technique that imposes less burden on patients, and a diagnostic technique for hypoalbuminemia.SOLUTION: Alpha amylase content in saliva taken from a subject is measured. In one embodiment, the alpha amylase content in the saliva is corrected by total protein concentration in the saliva. A serum albumin level is derived based on a positive correlation between alpha amylase content and serum albumin level in saliva. Further, chances of developing hypoalbuminemia is assessed based on a negative correlation between alpha amylase content in saliva and probability of developing hypoalbuminemia.SELECTED DRAWING: None
