PURPOSE:To economically and safely produce a gas electrode excellent in performance by applying and firing an organic solution of a platinum group metallic salt on one side of a sheet like base body obtained by mixing and firing a carbon powder with a fluororesin powder. CONSTITUTION:The sheet like gas electrode base body is obtained by kneading the carbon powder and the fluororesin powder with a solvent such as naphtha in a prescribed ratio to make paste like material, working it into sheet like body by a rolling roll or the like and firing. The carbon powder preferably has <=0.1mum particle diameter and furnace black or the like is used. The organic solution prepared by dissolving the platinum group metallic salt in the organic solvent such as allyl alcohol, butyl alcohol capable of forming an organic complex therewith is applied on one side of the based body and dried. Next, by firing the coated surface in an inert atmosphere at 250-380 deg.C to reduce the platinum group metal salt and to form a catalytic layer and, if necessary, joining an ion exchange membrane to the catalytic layer side, thus the solid high polymer electrolyte type gas electrode is obtained. |
