PURPOSE: To obtain a detection apparatus by which an error in a detection angle is corrected simply and quickly by a method wherein, regarding an image based on an image signal at a time when an object figure is imaged by an imaging device, an angle formed by one inertia main axis of the image with reference to the X-axis is computed via an arithmetic part. CONSTITUTION: An imaging device 1 images an object figure F in a rotation position around the center of gravity G. Image data on the object figure F on the basis of its image signal via an A/D converter 2 is stored in a frame memory 3. On the basis of the image data, an arithmetic part 4 finds an angleθformed by one inertia main axis A1 of the object figure F with reference to the X-axis passing the center of gravity G. The angleθcorresponds to the corrected angle of rotation of the object figure F to be detected. That is to say, the image data on the object figure F is taken into, the coordinates (Xg , Yg ) of the center of gravity G of the object figure F are found regarding an X-Y coordinate system, a new coordinate system which is parallel-translated in such a way that the origin passes the center of gravity G is set, and the angleθof one inertia main axis regarding the new coordinate system is found.
