<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent image defects such as caking of toner and color misalignment by securely preventing an increase in the inside temperature of an image forming apparatus even in case the apparatus is in a high temperature environment, especially during a standby period that is severe in terms of the inside temperature of the apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a temperature sensor 43 that detects the inside temperature of the image forming apparatus; a cooling fan that decreases the inside temperature of the apparatus; and a control unit 9 that compares a detection temperature detected by the temperature sensor 43 during a standby period in which images are not formed with a predetermined temperature set in advance, and controls the operation of the cooling fan so as to decrease the inside temperature of the image forming apparatus when the detection temperature is the predetermined temperature or above. The predetermined temperature is altered by the control unit 9.
