A shotshell cartridge 22 is provided for use in a sabot retaining shotshell cartridge chamber. The shotshell cartridge 22 comprises, a sub-caliber projectile 26 having a frontal portion 53 at one end, a base portion 54 at an opposite end, and sidewalls 56 between the frontal portion 53 and the base portion 54; a propellant charge 28; a sabot 30 accommodating the projectile 26, the sabot 30 including a central pathway 44 between the base 54 of the projectile 26 and the propellant charge 28; a hull 24 including a front portion 36 and an aft portion 28, the hull 24 configured to extend along the length of the shotshell cartridge 22 and houses the sabot 30, the projectile 26 and the propellant 28; and a cap 41 attached to the hull 24 adjacent the aft portion 38 of the hull 24, the cap 41 having a centrally located primer. |
