PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information retrieval system, capable of more surely retrieving a facility meeting the intention of a user when performing facility retrieval processing, based on a category designation due to category retrieval function or the like. SOLUTION: The present invention relates to an information retrieval system including a mobile phone, an information retrieval server and a communication network, wherein the mobile phone comprises a GPS function for acquiring its present location and a clock function for acquiring the present time. By inputting the category of a facility desired to utilize with respect to the mobile phone, instruction for obtaining information about the corresponding facility is transmitted to the information retrieval server. The information retrieval server which receives the instruction, transmits, as an answer, information about a facility which is closest to the present location of the mobile phone from among the facilities meeting designated conditions. The mobile phone which receives the answer, confirms available time contained in the received information and displays the received facility information, when the present time is within the available time. When the present time is out of the available time, an instruction requesting re-execution of facility retrieval is transmitted to the information retrieval server. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
