PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid level detector with high liquid level detection accuracy ensured by suppressing the effect of electrolytic corrosion to the utmost even in using a liquid level sensor immersed in a liquid that contains an electrolytic solution such as alcohol. SOLUTION: This liquid level detector comprises the liquid level sensor of a variable resistance type and a control part. The level sensor is equipped with a sliding contact and a resistor, and outputs a detection signal when detecting a change in a resistance value corresponding to a change in the liquid level of a liquid in a tank during its energization. The control part is used for performing energization control wherein energization pulses are cyclically supplied to the level sensor while being used for performing display control wherein a display part is caused to display the remaining amount of liquid in the tank based on the detection signal outputted by the level sensor owing to the energization. The control part changes the number of energization pulses supplied to the level sensor within a prescribed period based on the detection signal outputted by the level sensor. The number of energization pulses in a unit time period is decreased in the vicinity of point E (Empty) to shorten an energization time period while the number of energization pulses in a unit time period is increased in the vicinity of point F (Full) to enhance detection accuracy.
