<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of restraining the deterioration in image quality occurring because residual toner after transfer passes through a latent image forming area in the midst of forming a latent image. <P>SOLUTION: The residual toner after transfer remaining on the surface of a photoreceptor 1 without being electrostatically transferred to an intermediate transfer belt 10 in a primary transfer nip is temporarily held by a blade 13 before reaching the latent image forming area.
