<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical element molding method suppressing the occurrence of appearance defects. <P>SOLUTION: When an optical element having a radius R of curvature smaller than the radius r of a sphere (wherein r is the radius of a sphere having a volume equal to that of the optical element 20 to be molded) a molding material is subjected to a plurality times of heating and pressing. In molding an optical element having a relatively small radius R of curvature, a molding material is subjected to a plurality of times of heating and pressing. When a molding material is mounted in molding such a molding, a closed space is formed between the transfer surface of a molding die and a molding material and is apt to cause the molded optical element to have appearance defects such as air bubbles. However, since the molding material is subjected to a plurality of times of heating and pressing, it becomes possible to mount the molding materials 11, 12, and 13 on the transfer surfaces 31, 32, and 30 of molding dies after the closed spaces are regulated to volumes such small as not to cause appearances defects prior to heating and pressing in each time.
