Use of semaphorin-4d binding molecules to promote neurogenesis following stroke

Disclosed is the use of an isolated antibody or antigen-binding fragment thereof that specifically binds to semaphorin-4D (SEMA4D) in the preparation of a medicament for treating stroke in a subject in need of neural regeneration as a result of the stroke, wherein administration of the antibody or fragment thereof increases one or more of proliferation, differentiation, or migration of neural progenitor cells.
