A video telephone for transmitting video data of a still picture through an audio signal line 11 includes an image pick-up tube 31 for picking up a picture of the still picture, an analogue-to-digital converter 34 for converting the analogue output picked up by the image pick-up tube 31 to the form of a digital signal, a memory 41 for storing the output of the converter 34 as video data, a modulating circuit 44 for modulating the video data stored in the memory 41 into a modulated signal having a predetermined frequency band corresponding to a transmission band of the signal line 11, and a circuit 45 to 48 for transmitting the modulated output of the modulating circuit 44 to the signal line 11, wherein the number of picture elements forming one picture screen in the video data is 160 and 100 in the horizontal and vertical directions respectively. <IMAGE> |
