Covering for dampening roller of offset printing machine

The covering (15) is woven into a cylindrical shape and has a plurality of warps (13) composed of a hydrophilic fiber and one or several wefts (14) composed of a hydrophilic fiber having a water shrinkage of about 10 to 40%. The covering facilitates high speed control of the moisturizing condition of the printing surface of the machine. The weight of a cloth of said covering is less than 200g/m<2> and the thickness is less than 0.5 m.m. The thickness of the hydrophilic fibre yarn for the warps and the weft(s) is less than 220 deniers. The warps run continuously in the axial direction of the roller with a setting density of more than 20 threads per centimetre while the weft(s) run along the circumference with the same setting density.
