PURPOSE:To obtain a sliding member capable of manifesting sliding characteristics unchanged not only in a dry or a wet state but also in water by molding intermediate material powder prepared by rubbing fine powder of a solid lubricant subjected to the water repellent treatment in pores of a water holding porous substance and curing the resultant intermediate material powder with a binder. CONSTITUTION:An intermediate material is formed by rubbing fine powder of a solid lubricant 3 subjected to the water repellent treatment in pores 6 of a water holding porous substance 2 such as bamboo, wood, hollow synthetic fiber or a porous sintered metal by kneading or rolling. A binder 5, composed of a water-resistant resin and containing a reinforcing material 4, as necessary, added thereto is then mixed with the resultant powder of the intermediate material. The prepared mixture is subsequently molded by the injection molding. The obtained sliding member 1 can be used for both dry and wet applications; however, this member is capable of maintaining the abrasion resistance or lubricity for a long period even by use thereof in water without deteriorating or discharging the solid lubricant. |
