The present invention pertains to a process for operating a cash register terminal and to a cash register terminal, especially for self-service in gaming casinos, with bill-accepting and coin- depositing as well as coin-dispensing means and wi th at least one coin box. To design the cash register terminal for high speed of opera tion and a large storage capacity for coins, the coins (17) are conveyed upward from the bottom from the coin box (2), of which there is at least one, and the coins (17) are dispensed above the coin box (2), of which there is at least one, at at least on e outlet (19, 20, 21).
