The toothbrush has an elongated housing (2) with an inner hollow volume (3) and a front end part (1) carrying a rotatably mounted brush head. The rotation axis (B) of the head or a rotary plate (7) is at an angle to the longitudinal axis (A) of the housing. A transfer device (8) in the hollow volume and coupled to a drive has a drive shaft (10) and a transfer element (13) engaging the rotary plate to impart an alternating rotary motion. The transfer element is a straight pin that is preferably press-fitted into a bore (12) in the drive shaft.
