A gas turbine engine (1) has a burner chamber (4) with a number of fuel burners (10). The chamber has an inner heat shield lining (26) which, with the burner chamber wall (24) forms a passage for the flow of cooling air (K). Each burner (10) extends through an aperture (36) in the burner chamber wall (24), against which the burner is sealed by a plate (38). The plate seal incorporates a pre-mixing chamber (40), which mixes some of the burning gas with compressor air (V).
